Beyond conference 2024

Future Screens NI are excited to announce that we will be attending the Beyond conference in Manchester!

Beyond 2024 is being hosted by Media City in Manchester and is running from 25-27th November.

Future Screens NI have been asked to host a session on the S.U.R.F project.

This session will explore the use of creative industry skills and practices to challenge issues of systemic class inequality in post-conflict Northern Ireland. The Skills for Urban and Rural Futures (S.U.R.F.) programme will be showcased, with a local activist explaining how this programme offers new frameworks of possibility for those involved.

Office space/meeting room opportunity!

Future Screens NI are offering an exciting opportunity to make use of our second office in Ormeau Baths!

The room is based on the second floor, includes 4 monitors and can be used for meetings or an office space for you and your employees.

  • Booking is essential

  • The room cannot be booked for more than two consecutive days per week

  • There may be other individuals working in the space if availability allows

  • On arrival please go to the main reception located on the ground floor, they will provide you with an access pass

QUB MediaLab

The team had the privilege of getting a sneak peak of the new MediaLab at Queen’s University Belfast!

This months Future Tuesdays event was hosted by the brilliant team at the MediaLab located at 15 University Square Mews.

The session included a great insight into the fabulous work that goes on here at the MediaLab. The team talked us through the technology used, upcoming collaborations, new projects and how you can get involved.

We really enjoyed getting out of the office and meeting the team at MediaLab, the facilities are extremely impressive and the turnout for this event was great!

Future Tuesdays are back!

Future Tuesdays are back and better than ever! Join FSNI as we hear about the exciting updates on Studio Ulster from University Professors, Frank Lyons and Declan Keeney.

FSNI invites you to a Future Tuesday’s event on September 24th at 12:00 pm in Ormeau Baths, Belfast. The session will provide an update on Studio Ulster and the Arts and Humanities Research Council funded Co-Star Screen lab which is being developed by Ulster University. Professors Frank Lyons and Declan Keeney will give an overview of the present position of these important and exciting developments and offer insights into how the facilities can be accessed.

NACN X JM music partnership success!

NACN Coole Studios, one of Future Screens NI’s collaborative projects, have partnered with JM music to create exciting opportunities for young people with an interest in music, gaming, production and performing arts.

NACN Coole Studios, located in Rathcoole, Newtownabbey have created a unique, fun and challenging learning space for young people to explore the creative sector. The team offer workshops for those aged 8-25 years old, these workshops can include event management, performing arts, coding, web design, vocal academy and documentary production.

Their vision is to ensure young people from working-class backgrounds encounter no barriers when developing their creative skills. A recent research policy document from the Policy & Evidence Centre indicated that only between 8 and 16% of jobs in the creative industries are held by individuals from a working-class background.

Future Screens NI is delighted to provide funding, resources and skills training support, through the recently launched S.U.R.F programme, to help NACN Coole Studios is delivering educational, engaging and exciting workshops to those attending.

When visiting or partaking in NACN’s workshops you can discover a range of spaces, perfect for each workshop. For gamers there are high quality monitors ready for you to learn the ins and outs of game development. In terms of music production, playing an instrument or singing there is an impressive sound system set up and music studio, equipped with a range of instruments. Each workshop typically runs once a week after school time and each session accommodates 5-8 students.

The team at Coole studios is made up from volunteers from the community, Future Screens NI is delighted to be part of their project and look forward to seeing what the future holds for them.
